Japanese Animation Spectacular

The Studio Ghibli Collection: 1984 – 2009
Retrospective in Berkeley thru Sept. 27

Opening Friday, September 14 at the California Theatre for an exclusive two week engagement, is a festival showcasing thirteen beloved feature films from Japanese directors Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata and the masters of animation house Studio Ghibli. ASIFA members are well aware of the studio’s reputation for nuanced storytelling and breathtaking images that engage both kids and adults. Landmark Theater is presenting 35mm prints these wonderful films (including Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Porco Rosso and Castle in the Sky ) in the original Japanese language with English subtitles (except as noted). Check the first week’s showtimes here, or download a PDF of the flyer for the complete screening schedule. Even if you’ve seen them all before, this is a great way to introduce friends and family to genuine animated classics!
