The Disposable Film Festival
March 24-27, San Francisco
While not strictly an animation festival, the DFF has a lot of overlap of interest to ASIFA members. There’s the do-it-yourself spunk; the short, inventive, artistically refined punch that comes from working in a short format; and of course, there will be some stop motion and 2-D animation, all committed to “film” on non-professional devices like cell phones, webcams and still cameras. This is the fourth year running for the festival, which also screens the winners in New York, Beijing and elsewhere—but this week you can see the opening night at the Castro Theater in SF. Past years have been sellouts, so get your tickets in advance. There are other events throughout the weekend, check the DFF website or Facebook for more info.
