ASIFA-SF Summer Potluck & Screening

Sunday, August 7 at Oddball Films, S.F.

It’s time once again for our semi-annual get-together. ASIFA_SF mostly hosts screenings, which are great fun but don’t leave much room to meet and greet your fellow animation fans, students and artists. This time, it’s a party—Come celebrate, network, eat, drink and laugh. Enjoy a variety of films and if you have something new or a work-in-progress to show, bring it along! ASIFA-SF will provide some of the basics for this party; please bring special treats to share with others.

Our special guest is Gary Schwartz, an Academy Award nominated filmmaker, award winning animator, director, artist & educator. He has taught animation throughout the country and in Europe. Through his company, Single Frame Films, Gary has produced, designed and directed animation for Disney, Sesame Street, MTV, Fox Television, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and others. He graduated from CAL Arts Experimental Animation program.  Mr. Schwartz is currently Lecturer at the University of Michigan School of Art & Design. His kinetic cinema sculptures, installations & films have been exhibited in major museums & galleries internationally.

SCHWARTZ SHORTZ is a selection of animated shorts he has produced over the years for festival venues, etc. WHILE others were produced in animation workshops he conducted. And president Karl Cohen promises to bring a few surprises from his vault, not to mention what ever films YOU might care to share.

Oddball Films is located at 275 Capp St. between 17th and 18th Street. It is a giant 3rd floor warehouse loft full of rare 16mm films.  Stephen Parr provides historic footage to filmmakers and runs a great film series in this space. C’mon, it’ll be a blast!
